The RYA scheme is widely regarded as the world’s leader for international maritime qualifications and are recognised worldwide. Aegeas Yachting is a recognised RYA Training Centre and is approved by the RYA to conduct all levels of sailing courses up to Yachtmaster qualification.

RYA Practical courses

Competent Crew

This 5 days course introduces the beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and basic helmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew on a yacht. There is no minimum age limitation.

Day Skipper

During this 5 day course you will be taught pilotage, navigation, boat handling and seamanship up to the standards required to skipper a cruising yacht mainly by day in non-tidal waters. The RYA Day Skipper course will show you the difference between being crew and being the person in charge. The course introduces the challenges and responsibilities of being in charge of a yacht and how to cope with common difficulties. It is the course that is in highest demand, and can be combined with a competent crew level course at the same time. Minimum age to award a certificate is 16.

RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmastertheory

This is an advanced classroom course covering in 55-60 hours all skills needed for advanced navigation, tidal calculations, weather, safety and stability of a boat, collision regulations. At the end of the course and after finishing successfully 3 exam papers you will be awarded by RYA Coastal skipper/Yachtmaster shore based completion certificate.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal – Exam Preparation

The aim of this demanding course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Previous experience of 30 days at sea (2 of them as a skipper covering 800 miles and at least 12 hours at night) are required in order to be accepted on this course. Other pre-course requirements include a First Aid Certificate and an SRC (Short Range Certificate). During this course our already experienced candidates will be trained on advanced passage planning by day and night in more demanding areas and weather conditions. All candidates are required to learn how to cope with emergencies and conduct the correct crew management. Boat handling skills under both sails or power is required to meet very high standards in order to be ready to deal with all circumstances. An independent examiner different from your instructor will test your skills after the course Syllabus. Minimum age to award a certificate is 17.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Exam Preparation

The Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is internationally recognized and is a minimum legal requirement for seeking work in the industry. If you want to work in the charter business as a competent and reliable skipper, do long deliveries, or seek crew work on superyachts, this is the way to prove your skills. The Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is gained by examination conducted by RYA Yachtmaster Examiners who are independent from our Training Centre. This preparation course is for very experienced sailors who already hold a minimum of 2500 miles of seamanship (half of them in tidal waters) and at least 50 days at sea with 5 days as skipper day and night. These requirements are set in order to help ensure that you can enjoy and take full advantage of your preparation for the exams. The exams have a minimum duration of 8-10 hours per candidate and are a real challengeof your skills and seamanship. Other pre-course requirements include a First Aid Certificate and an SRC (Short Range Certificate). Minimum age to award a certificate is 18.

Power Boat Level 2

This 2 day RYA Practical Powerboat course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It includes close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery, collision regulations and basic navigation.

RYA Shore based courses

RYA SRC (Short Range Radio)

A course for anyone who owns or uses a fixed or hand-held marine VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC). This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels. The course duration is 10 h and we usually run it during weekends.

RYA Essential Navigation course

This course offers an introduction to navigation and safety awareness for new, inexperienced crew. It’s a highly informative course to put your new found knowledge into practice. This course is designed to cover all relevant syllabus and to prepare someone fora Day Skipper practical course with us. The course contents include basic navigation (visual and electronic), collision regulations, pilotage and passage planning and rope work. At the end of the course you will be awarded by RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship
