During this weekend Friday to Sunday 16th – 18th March aegeas yachting charter company organised the second Match Race championship in Kavala.
Since Friday afternoon 7 teams with 5 members each one arrived atKavala‘s port for some training and then joinning the sailing instructions at OTHAK yacht club premises. Having 3 teams from Bulgaria , 2 teams from Athens and one from Thessaloniki the event became really international and well known all over Greece.
Weather wasn’t realy helpful with very light winds on Saturday and rainy on Sunday but race committee managed to run 17 games out of 21 so everybody was very satisfied.
1st place over all for the J Mania team from Yacht Club of Greece with skipper the well known George Panagiotidis , 2nd place for Slatko team with mixed crew from Bulgaria and Greece and skipper Dimitris Sofitsis, 3rd place for Youths with skipper Dany Bougetzioglou, 4th palce for Doende North with skipper Maria – Christina Kontogianopoulou, 5th place Regattack with skipper Ivan Georgiev, 6th place for Ultra Marine with skipper Yavor Kolev, 7th place for North Fails with skipper Manos Chatzigiannis.
Special thanks to the international umpire from Athens Stavros Kouris, the secretary of Platu 25 class in Greece Maria – Christina Kontogianopoulou, the sailing officer of Yacht Club of Greece Kostas Liberakis and our sponsor Manitsas marine in Nea Peramos for the assistance preparing the boats.
There will be efforts next championship this Autumn to be as inport race into Kavala‘s port promoting and upgrading Kavala as international sailing destination.
